Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman's Tournament

 This year's tournament will take place at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier on Friday, May 10th starting at 8:oo am and lasting until 12:30 pm.

Our Tournament is in its 15th year and has grown from just 40 fishermen the first year to having over 300 entries last year. Every year the Got-Em-On Live Bait Club, with the support of many sponsors and donors, provides a great day of fishing to people of all ages and with all types of disabilities who have been waiting-whether patiently or impatiently- since this time last year to come back to the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. The Tournament provides everything they'll need from bait, rods and tackle to breakfast, Lunch and awards, plus sends each participant home with a goodie bag. The Got-Em-On does its best to make sure being disabled doesn't prevent anyone from enjoying one of the greatest activities our area has to offer.

Fundraiser for Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman's Tournament

 On Saturday, May 4th bring your friends and family to Bud & Joe's in Kure Beach for the best pig pickin'! The event will start at noon and eat until the pig is gone. Jim Dial and Rick Sloan will be manning the grill, cooking up a pig donated to raise funds to help support the Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman's Tournament. Plates are $7.00 each and include BBQ, cole slaw, potato salad and hush puppies. Drinks will also be available for purchase. It's going to be a great day with some great food..Hope to see you there.

 Our next event is the Azalea Festival Social (or Zenya Fest as good ole Donnie Harrell called it) on April 13th at "Freddie's Yacht Yard". You definitely don't want to miss the event- Lynn Ray Williamson & Capt Chip Berry are cooking BBQ Chicken. It is tasty, believe me! Of course we'll have the normal fixin's to go along with it. We will  also have a DJ and plenty of cold beverages for everyone! The social starts at 12:00 pm.

 Ladies, don't forget to don your best hat for a chance at winning the hat contest. I am sure we will see some "unique" hats for that day--especially if we leave it up to T-Lo and Kathy Hicks! Same rules as before, best hat wins an award. Normally we have a raffle for a custom rod and reel and this raffle has been changed to the Lady Angler social on July 26th.

 Secondly, I'm sure many of you know the ordeal that Archie and Wanda are going through. Their daughter Christy is fighting an aggressive form of leukemia and has been put out of work creating serious financial issues for them. They need some support, and the Lord knows they support the club. Our own Freddie Holland has agreed to dust off his microphone and help us raise some money with a Dessert Auction at the Azalea Festival Social to raise money for them. So pull out the bag o' sugar and flour and make your best dessert ever! Also remember to put a few extra dollars in your pocket so that you can bid on a dessert too. All monies raised during the auction will go directly to Christy. In addition, there will be a prize given by the club to the dessert maker that raises the most money. Please keep them in your prayers. As with any event, the Azalea Festival Social is a good one to stock up on some Club gear and renew your membership! Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.

2013 Work Day at Freddie's Yacht Yard

 The Hollands and the Lees graciously allow us to use their property for Club events throughout the year. Over the years maintenance has been done on the docks by the Club to show our thanks for their support! This year we will be doing it on Saturday March 2nd starting at 11:00 am. The work list is not huge, but we do need some people to show up and lend a hand. We will be making some new ladders, renailing/replacing deckboards, making a new bench, and pressure washing. If you can make it come on. Bring your hammer, saw, or whatever you'd like, I am sure we'll use it. We really need someone to bring a pressure washer and be in charge of that part of the project.

 After the work is finished, we'll have a little oyster roast, and some cold brews for those that have come to participate!!!! If you have any questions give Capt John Batson a call at 910-367-0653. Look forward to seeing you there.

Road Warrior Tournament Update

 This year's Road Warrior Tournament will be held in Oriential, NC. The place we are staying is the Oriential Inn and Marina. If you signed up for a room during the Chowder Contest on Saturday you will have until February 25th to call and reserve your room. If you did not sign up on Saturday and would like to go, we can put your name on a waiting list and it will be first come first serve for rooms that may come available. It is very important that we give the Oriential Inn an accurate number of reservations that will be firm. We are effectively renting out the entire complex for 4 days. Please if you are on the list, but are not completely committed to going, let John Batson know. As you can see there is already a few people on the waiting list.

 If we have an overflow of people wanting to go, there is another Hotel just a block away. It is called the River Neuse Suites, and they will honor the Oriential Inn rates minus the discount. Their website is: hhtp://www.riverneuserentals.com/ .

 In reference to Boat Slips, we will be reserving 5 slips. Each slip will accommodate 4 boats and the cost of the slips will be split between everyone that uses them. If you have any questions contact John Batson (910-367-0653) .

Chowder Cook Off

 Well its a New Year and time to start the year off right with a social. We will have our annual "Chowder Cook Off" and "Dessert Contest" on February 9th at Snow's Cut Park on river road. Event starts at 12:30 pm and prizes will be awarded in both categories.

 Trophies for our annual Chart Buster winners will also be given out at this time. This will be a great time to pay your dues for the year if you haven't already. Lots of Club hats, shirts and other items will be offered for sale. Everyone come on out and bring your favorite Chowder or Dessert and have a great time. I look forward to seeing you there!!

 The Chowder Contest winner was Capt John Batson and the Dessert winner was Debbie Harrill. Congratulations go out to both. We would like to thank everyone who brought Chowders & Desserts and making this event complete.

Golf Tournament UPDATE!

It was a smashing success! Thats the only way to put it! We had 116 players, and were completely full. The weather was wonderful throughout the day!

A HUGE thankyou to all volunteers! Teresa told me that everyone was very helpful, with a big smile all day! Smiles go a long way, and she said that whats made it that much better!

If you see Teresa Lomas, please thank her. She singlehandedly planned the entire event. It was a wonderful, flawless day!

It looks like we raised quite a bit of money. We are still going through the financials, but right now it looks like we will be putting a nice chunck of change in our new scholarship!

I didn't want to have to write this, but it must be done.

Due to Tropical Storm Sandy, and the increasingly bad weather reports for Saturday, the Board has voted to change the date for the Golf Tournament.

We realize that this may mess some plans up for people, but did not feel as though it would be fair to expect participants to play in a rainy/windy environment, and also feel like they have been a part of a good cause.

We have changed the date to the next Saturday that Echo Farms had available; December 8th. I sincerely hope everyone will be able to accomodate this change into your schedule! Thanks so much! Capt. John

Fall is here! Upcomming Events for the Got-Em-On!!!!

Nov. 8th, Open Board Meeting @ Federal Point Historic Building. Meeting starts at 7, with light food at 6:30. This is your time to come to the Board meeting to vent your frustrations, complaints, etc. This is also the time to through your name in the hat for a board member position! Every year, each board member is elected. Positions are President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Please let me know if you wish to run for one of these positions no later than the Nov. 8th!

Nov. 10 is our End of Year Party! This year we will be having it at the Arab Shrine Club, 4510 South College Road, Wilmington. We will be serving heavy hors d'oeuvres, along with the band Carolina Breakers! Party Starts at 6:30, with food coming out around 7! At the party, voting for board memebers will take place, as well as Top Ten Points Awards will be given out. Look forward to seeing everyone there!
