12th Annual Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman's Tournament

The Cape Fear Disabled Sportsman's Tournament 12th Annual Tournament will proudly be held on friday, May 14th, 2010 at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier from 8:00 am until 12:30 pm. There will be an awards ceremony held shortly afterward.

Through donations and volunteers this tournament is in its 12th year! Support from club members and Sponsors has made it possible to host over 340 participants, and along with their attendants and parents, last year's tournament welcomed over 500 people!! Contestants and Attendees were treated to breakfast, lunch, snacks, beverages, a tournament T-Shirt and all the necessary fishing equipment. At the end of a great day of fishing many contestants were awarded prizes and all contestants were given goody bags to take home, along with great memories!

In addition, this year we will hold the drawing for the Got-em-on Fishing Shack Playhouse raffle on the day of the tournament. The playhouse was built donated by Alan Votta Builders, and can be seen in Kure Beach at the corner of Fort Fisher Blvd and K Ave.   Tickets are avaliable ($5 each) at the Kure Beach Pier, or by calling Dawson Freuler.

Anyone wishing to become a Sponsor or Volunteer to help with this event can contact: Dawson Freuler 910-264-8397 or by email at DAWSONFRE@YAHOO.COM . If you haven't been down to see all the smiles, you need to check out this most Heartwarming Event. Last year's pictures and Sponsors are available on this website. (Club Photos for past years)  We sincerely thank everyone for their support!

"Azalea Festival Blowout"

The Azalea Festival Blowout will be held on Saturday April 4th at Freddie's Yacht Yard (400 Block of Canal Drive) from 1 o'clock until 5 pm. Vic & Lisa Mathis and John Batson will be serving an old fashion southern style "Pig Pickin" with all the dressings. Lunch will be served around 2 o'clock. Entertainment will be provided by DJ David Wade of "Shanty's Beach & Blues Club", playing the best of Beach Music.

We will be having a "Best Dessert" and a "Best Spring Fling Bonnet" contest. Prizes will be awarded in both contests.  We will also be having our annual raffle drawings ( raffle tickets will be available for purchase on site) and some new club merchandise will be available for sale. Look forward to seeing everyone there!!!

"Results"

This might have been our best ever!! The weather was great and we had over 200 people in attendance. Vic & Lisa Mathis and John Batson cooked a great meal that left smiles on everyone's faces! The desserts were great also, with the "Best Dessert" going to "Susie Gurganus" and the winner of the "Best Spring Fling Bonnet" going to "Olivia Ryan". What a way to get our season started!! A special thanks goes out to all who helped make this event possible. DJ David Wade's music was awesome as usual !

LADY ANGLER TOURNAMENT

The annual Got-em-on Lady Angler Tournament will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 with registration on Friday, September 10th at the Garage Mahal (511 Clarendon Ave, Carolina Beach). Registration will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. We will have a shrimparoo, music, and a captains meeting after the registration. This is a club social event and all members are invited, so bring the family and join in the fun!

Entry fee (for fishing on Saturday) is $25.00 per angler, with cash prizes and awards given for the largest fish in the following categories; King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Speckle Trout, Red Drum and Flounder. Only 1 award per angler!  The entry fee qualifies you for all 5 categories.  Also, those most desirable ladies Gold Charms are back! (They'll be on display at the social on Friday.)   Gold Charms are given for the heaviest fish in each of the five categories.  "Gentlemen" may pilot the boat, catch bait, gaff or net the fish, but the Lady angler must put out lines, set the hook and catch eligible fish to qualify.

Johnny and Robin have come up with another Very special Tee-shirt for this tournament only, and they will be on sale during the registration on Friday.

The LADY ANGLER is perhaps the most competitive and exciting tournament on the Got-em-on schedule, so please make plans now to attend, participate, and enjoy the food, fun and excitement!   We look forward to seeing YOU there!

(For all the Guys that want to participate but don't have any "Lady Anglers" let us know at the Captains meeting. There may be a few Ladies that need a boat to fish on.)
